Determining if You’re Experiencing Depression

Depression is not a condition that has a single cause. Many factors may contribute to its occurrence. This is not a condition that occurs suddenly. In contrast, it develops over an extended period of time and can lead to a downward spiral.

There are four major causes of depression:

  • 1. Background information about the family.

  •  Even though we cannot pinpoint specific genes that are linked to depression. If you have relatives who have suffered from depression, you are more likely to have it yourself. This link may be due to learned behavior or biology, but the jury is still out.
  • 2. Health problems and illnesses.

  • Injuries or illnesses can adversely affect mental health. Physical health issues, chronic health issues, or long-term health issues. That drastically change your lifestyle can lead to depression. It is common for doctors to understand this and to suggest mental health treatment as part of your overall health plan. Having problems with your brain, hormones, menstrual cycle, or menopause, or with low blood sugar or sleep problems can have an extremely negative impact.
  • 3. Medical problems and drug abuse.

  • A number of drugs have the unfortunate side effect of depression. When you feel depressed after starting a new medication. It is best to research its side effects and talk to your doctor. There may be a better alternative. You should also avoid recreational drugs and alcohol use when you feel depressed. Though they seem to help initially with depression symptoms, they will ultimately make you feel worse.
  • 4. Character.

  •  Some people and personalities are just more likely to suffer from depression.

What is depression?

Every fifth person suffers from depression sooner or later in life. And the impact varies greatly from person to person.

Sadness can be caused by stressful life experiences. Self-depreciation or feelings of guilt or shame, misfortune, unexpected deprivation, problems at work or home. Or inability to let go of bad memories (such as hardships at school or during adolescence).

The treatment of depression
